5 Most Expensive Coffees in the World
Coffee is a highly sought-after commodity, cultivated and consumed all over the world. In the upper echelon, it’s similar to caviar, truffles, or aged Bordeaux. It’s highly sought-after, to the degree that it comes with a huge price tag, often at the four-digit cost per pound.
It’s not a secret that expensive coffees exist, but the most iconic taste award has to go to the one that you can order via the coffee online website, it comes directly from the hearth of the Equator.
Molokai Coffee: $60 per pound
It is sometimes more expensive than Kona Coffee, but this Hawaiian coffee that comes from the island of Molokai may be still becoming popular. The business is continuing to grow, having been initiated by an German businessman in the mid-1800s but it didn’t become commercialized until the late 1980s. The most sought-after beans are known as the red cat. It is a favorite in volcanic soils like Hawaii and gives delicious, sour, and rich notes that are especially good at the top end of the range of roasting. Look for “Molokai prime” on the label, which means that you’re buying the highest quality beans.

In this region, bourbon-roasted beans with a green edge dominate the landscape brought over from Yemen (fittingly from the port city, also known as Mocha). It’s the Pinot Noir of coffee from all over the world. The bean is very difficult to cultivate and process and is adored for its unique flavor and delicacy. Starbucks has been in the news since 2016, when it launched certain coffees made with Saint Helena beans, hitting the specialty aisles with prices of just $80 for an 8.8-ounce bag.
Finca El Injerto: $500 per pound

Small quantities of this coffee are frequently auctioned off and can fetch prices of more than $500 per kilogram. Like Kona and a few other premium coffee brands across the globe, Finca El Injerto is often mentioned on the roaster’s label, however, it’s usually not made of the finest coffee from this Central American pocket (or, only a tiny portion of the beans end up in the package).
Kopi Luwak: $600 per pound
A highly sought-after Indonesian method of making luxury coffee. Kopi Luwak is a reference to the process of elevating beans to such a costly region. The coffee cherries ferment when they are transported by the civet which is a cat that is native to forests in tropical regions. Alongside the chemical changes that the cat’s stomach causes upon the bean (something roasters with the highest quality often wax poetic on) It is believed that the civet’s eyes are on the finest beans and only eat the very best. It results in an expensive coffee that is unique to other or at least, about its origin. It’s important to know that there is a lot of fraud within this coffee, and producers continue to experiment with their beans, which pass through different animal species to make something distinctive inside the cup.
Black Ivory
The price of $1,500 per pound is pretty certain that anything with ivory in its name is a bargain. This coffee is located in the northern part of Thailand and frequently reaches 1500 dollars per pound. As with many premium beans (see the previous paragraph) the process isn’t always a pleasant experience. The beans are passed through a digestive tract of an elephant, which activates a specific family of enzymes that create beans that are extremely delicious and smooth. It’s a complex procedure that produces only a handful of whole beans as elephants are known to reduce the number of beans they consume. But the result is an exceptional product that is widely believed to be among the most expensive and sought-after coffee on the planet.
