OSWALD CHAMBERS, “My Utmost for His Highest.”
If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left —Genesis 13:9
As soon as you begin to live the life of faith in God, fascinating and physically gratifying possibilities will open up before you. These things are yours by right, but if you are living the life of faith you will exercise your right to waive your rights, and let God make your choice for you. God sometimes allows you to get into a place of testing where your own welfare would be the appropriate thing to consider, if you were not living the life of faith. But if you are, you will joyfully waive your right and allow God to make your choice for you. This is the discipline God uses to transform the natural into the spiritual through obedience to His voice.
Whenever our right becomes the guiding factor of our lives, it dulls our spiritual insight. The greatest enemy of the life of faith in God is not sin, but good choices which are not quite good enough. The good is always the enemy of the best. In this passage, it would seem that the wisest thing in the world for Abram to do would be to choose. It was his right, and the people around him would consider him to be a fool for not choosing.
Many of us do not continue to grow spiritually because we prefer to choose on the basis of our rights, instead of relying on God to make the choice for us. We have to learn to walk according to the standard which has its eyes focused on God. And God says to us, as He did to Abram, “. . . walk before Me. . .” ( Genesis 17:1 ).

A MESSAGE FROM THE STUDENT MINISTRIES DIRECTOR
ACTIVATE, let’s change things up a bit.
Here’s what I mean. We’re currently at a confluence of three different things.
1) I want you all to become more comfortable with the entire congregation and I want you to have greater exposure to older generations who can sow into you. No matter how great I am [and I know I'm just awesome like that
] I can’t address every need that you have.
2) We have been talking about starting a small group outside of Sundays where you can invite friends and we can fellowship and hang out.
3) I’m planning my first mission trip ever and it’s going to call me away from a whole lot of Sundays for planning and fundraising.
THEREFORE
We’re going to move our plans for a Small group up. As in next week.
Yes, next week.
Starting Tuesday, June 1, we’re going to have ACTIVATE small group on Tuesday nights. Place: 3 brothers pizzaria by Twinbrook Metro. I’m going to do the crazy stalker thing and Facebook friend you all and invite you to an ACTIVATE group that will make it easier to coordinate future events. If Tuesday nights in general simply won’t work, let me know and we’ll pick another day no big deal. This first one is on me and will be pretty chill. We will get started in on the spiritual gifts series that you were all interested in.
Ideally this small group will be for the older half (16 +) of our "youth." 12-15 will still have Sunday morning stuff where we can dig deep and acclimate that generation to a mode of thinking which most of you all just sort of showed up with.
Ok, that’s the plan. I’m going to invite a few people outside of ACTIVATE to join us for a couple of different reasons, but there won’t be too many, and I’ll try to make it as safe and comfortable as possible. If ANYONE, makes you feel off, awkward, or uncomfortable, you let me know and I’ll take care of it.
I’d ask you to RSVP but I know how futile that can be
Much love and God’s blessing on you all,
–
Seiji Yamashita

All Things New
This is a continuation of the Kingdom of God from Mark 2
No commentsOswald Chamber’s “Having God’s ‘Unreasonable’ Faith”
Having God’s "Unreasonable" Faith
Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you —Matthew 6:33
When we look at these words of Jesus, we immediately find them to be the most revolutionary that human ears have ever heard. “. . . seek first the kingdom of God . . . .” Even the most spiritually-minded of us argue the exact opposite, saying, “But I must live; I must make a certain amount of money; I must be clothed; I must be fed.” The great concern of our lives is not the kingdom of God but how we are going to take care of ourselves to live. Jesus reversed the order by telling us to get the right relationship with God first, maintaining it as the primary concern of our lives, and never to place our concern on taking care of the other things of life.
“. . . do not worry about your life. . .” ( Matthew 6:25 ). Our Lord pointed out that from His standpoint it is absolutely unreasonable for us to be anxious, worrying about how we will live. Jesus did not say that the person who takes no thought for anything in his life is blessed— no, that person is a fool. But Jesus did teach that His disciple must make his relationship with God the dominating focus of his life, and to be cautiously carefree about everything else in comparison to that. In essence, Jesus was saying, “Don’t make food and drink the controlling factor of your life, but be focused absolutely on God.” Some people are careless about what they eat and drink, and they suffer for it; they are careless about what they wear, having no business looking the way they do; they are careless with their earthly matters, and God holds them responsible. Jesus is saying that the greatest concern of life is to place our relationship with God first, and everything else second.
It is one of the most difficult, yet critical, disciplines of the Christian life to allow the Holy Spirit to bring us into absolute harmony with the teaching of Jesus in these verses.
the Tapestry Church Thread | Missions Update | South Dakota Mission 2010
Dear Tapestry Family,
This past January Joan had the opportunity to visit the Lakota Indians on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. The experience in itself was life changing for her, but there was something greater that was life changing:
3rd world poverty in what is supposed to be the most developed country in the world. Now we’re going to do something about it.
What: Children deserve a childhood so we’re going to give it to them. For a week Joan, Bill, Martha, Will and I will be running a free Theater Day Camp out of Pine Ridge Retreat Center. However we simply won’t be playing games and putting on shows with Children. These are children who have lost their voice, and although they have a puppet ministry to assist in their worship practices, They don’t know how to say what’s on their hearts. So we’re going to help them learn how. We’re going to develop the existing puppet ministry so that they can share the Lakota culture, and hopefully begin the healing process on some very deep, and very old wounds.
How you can …
…Pray. We need prayer for three things.
• Healing – while many of these children haven’t experienced personal trauma the community suffers deep wounds and scars that long to be healed.
• Faith – While many of those we’ll meet are Christians, I ask that you pray for continuing faith in their lives, faith so strong that they don’t believe God loves them, they know it.
• Revelation and obedience – There are a lot of uncertainties going into this. Please pray that God would reveal His desires and plans to the team, as well as to those we’ll encounter. Also pray that those who receive this revelation are obedient to it.
…Help. We will be hosting fundraisers including a yard sale, a cookout, and an exhibition/auction of Joan’s artwork that was inspired by her initial trip out to Pine Ridge. Money from the fundraisers will go towards
• $5.00 per child for Love Feast
• $5.00 per child for Camp
• $200 to renovate the old and construct a new, travelling puppet theatre.
• $10.00 per person per day running the camp and staying at Pine Ridge Retreat center
• $400 per person to travel to and return from Pine Ridge.
We’re also collecting any donations of puzzles, gently used toys, and board games. Additionally we’ll be collecting any donations of winter gear, from coats and boots, to hats and gloves.
Thank you all for your prayers and support. Once we get going on Friday, July 30, you can follow us on twitter (http://twitter.com/justapen) and on my blog (http://justapen.wordpress.org). In the meantime you can keep track of our progress on the first giving page (www.firstgiving.com/southdakotamission).
Thank you all for your prayers.
