Connecting people to GOD & each other!

Kenya Update | 3-27-2009

I just got off the phone with Kenya.

Their churches are now into the fourth day of fasting. They have spread the message through all media possible. They now expect thousands to come and there has never been a crusade to this area before. They are praying for salvations.

They are again praying through the night for us.

Would it be possible church to begin to pray for them with fervor? These wonderful people pray for us through the night and day after day and fast for GOD’s blessing on us, can we do the same for them?

I am asking that we pray. Can we stir ourselves up in the night season? Can we pray for repentance to come on their land as well as ours? Can we pray healing from the fighting that they had two years ago? Can we pray for GOD’s mercy to run through the land? I am stirred inside as I hear their voices. They are so very excited and desire to connect with you all in prayer.

Can we pray?

Can we pray for the same fire in America?

What if the truly is Revival? Could this be the time that GOD has called us to our knees? Could it be that our brothers and sisters from Africa heard the call long before us and are moving to rend the heavens? Can we humble ourselves and recognize the day of GOD’s visitation?

The harvest is truly ripe. The workers are truly few.

Let us pray…

Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand…

CANDY! | Another Special Thread…

Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew
Cover it with choc’late and a miracle or two
The Candy Man, oh the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can ’cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good

Who can take a rainbow, wrap it in a sigh
Soak it in the sun and make a groovy lemon pie
The Candy Man, the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can ’cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good

The Candy Man makes everything he bakes satisfying and delicious
Now you talk about your childhood wishes, you can even eat the dishes

Oh, who can take tomorrow, dip it in a dream
Separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream
The Candy Man, oh the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can ’cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good

The Candy Man makes everything he bakes satisfying and delicious
Talk about your childhood wishes, you can even eat the dishes

Yeah, yeah, yeah
Who can take tomorrow, dip it in a dream
Separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream
The Candy Man, the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can ’cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good
Yes, the Candy Man can ’cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good
a-Candy Man, a-Candy Man, a-Candy Man
Candy Man, a-Candy Man, a-Candy Man
Candy Man, a-Candy Man, a-Candy Man

Hi Everyone,
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I can tell you that I DID! After getting my round of shots for the upcoming Kenya Trip and of course the crazy accident last week, I am an achy guy! The reason for this latest email is we have found ourselves in a slight predicament.
We have TONS OF EGGS for Operation Easter Egg, BUT NOT ENOUGH CANDY!!!!!
We plan to fill over a thousand eggs with candy and have bags as well. We have publicized the event in the area and will be stuffing bags and eggs in two weeks on April 5th after the evening service during our Casserole Cookoff. We have casserole makers signed up and anyone can just bring a pot or dish of their favorite food to share as we do the stuffing, but unless we get some MAJOR HONKING CANDY….
…well, there will be no stuffing! HAHAHA!
So, here’s the deal… Let’s show these kids that the Tapestry Church is the CANDY CAPITAL of churches! Can you please do your magic guys? Let’s get more than enough candy! we need Candy! tons and tons of Candy!its not happening. We cant do this if there is no Candy!
So, what do ya’ say guys?
Let’s BRING ON THE CANDY!!!!
Hahahaha!
By the way guys, you all rock!
Blessings!

The Thread | 2009-3-18

“This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left behind…let it be something good.”

-Author Unknown

Hey Everyone,

I wanted to send out this Thread to remind us of a few things and to encourage!

1 – Please keep our team that is going to Mexico in your prayers. They leave tomorrow and will be taking resources and finances to our contact in Mexico. It is really exciting to hear about Pastor Eden’s (sp?) vision, heart and plans. He has already planted churches, is now starting a possible community center and an orphanage. What a great VISION. So, Patrick and Hector, our prayers go with us as you fly out on Thursday to go and encourage and SPREAD FI-YAH!

2 – I will be leaving on March 31 for my work in Kenya. I go to Pastor Onesimus and his church plants outside Nairobi. I will be leading a large conference and crusade and will be likely preaching the gospel to hundreds if not thousands. While I am there, I am making plans to connect with leaders that will give us relationships for future work with the Foundation we are starting this year.

3 – We have been working to start an at home day care for the church in our house. This is something we have been praying about and planning for over two years. We have people that will be taking training and Lori and I have a few more steps to take to prepare the house for the actual inspection. We plan to provide services at a reduced rate to people in need and a sliding scale to single mothers. We see that this will likely be something that will grow with the church and a business like this has the possibility to fund ministry and mission, employ workers in need of jobs and help us get a building.

4 – We are planning to upgrade our sound system. It’s nothing extravagant, but after 11 years of use, the present one is breaking down. (I bought the present one in 1997 when I started the outreach ministry “Sparkplug Ministries”). So, we will be carefully purchasing something that allows us to: be heard throughout the building clearly, have monitors for the musicians, will be easy to setup and tear down, can be used at any future building and will be GREAT for recording. (Which by the way, if you weren’t there Sunday night, YOU MISSED THE BEST worship jam EVER! I will later post the recording that Zuzana made on her cell phone so everyone can hear it. AMAZING!) And this of course will later lead to us recording our music as we have planned.

5 – We have a number of events coming up:

A – March Family Day (Saturday, March 28 to the National Kite Festival on the National Mall). Email lorihedrick(at)tapestrychurch.org for details.

B – Tapestry First Annual Casserole Cookoff and Potluck (April 5th after the PM service) Email su(at)tapestrychurch.org for more details.

C – Operation Easter Egg (April 12th after the AM service) Email su(at)tapestrychurch.org for more details.

          D – The DCUnderground.org concert (See www.dcunderground.org for details).

          E – Creationfest Email joan(at)tapestrychurch.org

F – Small groups including a Dream Interpretation Small Group

G – Tapestry Spring Refreshing to the Reserve in WV. Email patrickdkim(at)tapestrychurch.org for more details.

H – Ordination of Ministers and Preparation Services for Church Planters

I – Seminars, Baptism & Special Speakers

With all of that said, there is TONS going on!!! If you are not having fun this year or you feel uninvolved, IT’S NOT OUR FAULT! We want you to come be with us and have SO MUCH FUN as we grow closer to GOD and each other.

With that said, I leave you with this encouraging thought from my favorite spiritual leader, Henry Blackaby:

God’s Provision Brings Glory

Day-by-Day

Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me. (Psalms 50:15)
Did you know that you bring glory to God by calling upon Him when you are in distress? God promised He would deliver you if you turned to Him. You deny the Lord honor that is rightfully His every time you find yourself in difficulty and you fail to call upon Him for help! There may be times when God allows you to reach a point of need so that you can call upon Him, and thus let Him demonstrate to a watching world the difference He makes in the lives of His children. If God never allowed you to experience need, people around you might never have the opportunity to witness God’s provision in the life of a Christian. If you never faced a shortfall, you might be tempted to feel self-sufficient and without any need of God in your daily life.
Pride will tempt you to think that you do not need to seek God’s assistance. Self-regard will seek to convince you that you can handle your dilemma through your own wisdom, resources, and hard work. Pride will also rob glory from God and seek to give it to you. Don’t allow your pride to take what rightfully belongs to the Lord. Call upon your Lord and wait exclusively upon Him to rescue you. Then give Him the glory that He deserves.
Self-sufficiency can greatly hinder your ability to experience God and bring Him honor. The next time you are in distress, turn to Him!

Ever Had One of Those Days? | A Special Thread Report

“The unthankful heart discovers no mercies; but the thankful heart will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings.”
-Henry Ward Beecher
Pray for me. I am a bit sore. It was either take on a transfer truck or a car head on. I chose the truck. The good news is that the transfer was not hurt nor the driver. The bad news is that it is my fault. Of course, it would have been the other driver’s fault, had I hit the car coming head on at me.
I had vehicles encroaching from both sides. The transfer was in my lane on one side and another car from head on.
So, with that said, I both hit the truck and have the blame. One of those days!
Please keep me in prayer. I know this is only a momentary distraction, but this is my first official accident. This of course is just a couple of weeks out from my travel to Kenya. And I am REALLY pretty sore now. I have taken advil, but to no avail.
Thanks for all of your thoughts, prayers and encouragement and thought this does hurt my heart a little, on the brighter side, it does afford the following:
1 – Plenty of time for Lori and I to pray together as we drive to work together for the next couple weeks.
2 – A new way to reduce carbon emissions since I will not be driving for a couple of days since this scared the crud out of me.
3 – A chance to reevaluate and possibly get a better van that will allow us to pick people up at the metro. (Something we’ve been wanting for a while).
4 – A reprieve from my incessant schedule and a chance to rethink how busy and overworked I am.
5 – A moment to see all of my friends and family come to my rescue.
6 – Another chance to realize that my first reaction is still as it has been in the past, selfless. I didn’t think twice about hitting someone head on, instead, I took a stopped truck.
My praises are:
1 – I am ok and that I did not hit a driver head on which would have either killed me or someone else.
2 – You guys have been praying, texting and chatting and literally encouraging the heck out of me.
3 – It wasn’t anyone else. I am so glad it was me driving it.
4 – Kenya called and all the pastors were having a prayer vigil for me and told me that they have been doing it ALL DAY, which means that they are probably the reason I didn’t have a head on collision and die. THOSE GUYS WERE INTERCEDING and GOD probably saved me from a worse accident and a worse plan!
5 – These near misses and close calls happen to me a few times a week for the last 4.5 years and this is the ONLY TIME I HAVE ever been in an accident! NOW THAT IS A PRAISE! That is over 450 near misses and only one accident. NOW THINK ABOUT THAT!
6 – We already have possibilities for a new van or other plans.
7 – WE HAVE A TEAM ON MISSION IN MEXICO today!
8 – I WILL BE IN KENYA IN TWO WEEKS PREACHING THE GOSPEL TO HUNGRY SOULS!
9 – Jesus is moving in our church!
10 – We have grown so much this year!
11 – My family is safe and healthy!
12 – GOD IS KING!
13 – And that JESUS IS MY LOVE, MY LORD, AND MY SAVIOR! THE BEST PRAISE EVER!
So, with that said, how can I EVER COMPLAIN!
Thanks guys, love ya’
I am so happy to be your pastor and to have these moments with you all.
Blessings!

INDIA | An Update from Todd Payne | 2009-3-16 (3)

Talk out about paranoid, my friend Chris experienced it.

Have you ever been stuck in an ATM? Most of us would answer no, but Chris would have to say yes! He got locked in an ATM! It was so funny! He was surrounded by people who he didn’t recognise. Our pastors was asking him to slide his card under the door so he could unlock it from the outside, cause Chris didn’t realise there was a button on the inside that says ” Press Here”!! He was paranoid, who would fill safe giving there most valuable possession to a stranger?

Got a good message from it, though I was laughsing from the car my message was in formation. Here goes.
Jesus among ours are outside asking for the key to your hearts door! However they can’t get in from the outside, cause the button that allows access is on the inside! Would you push your button and let Jesus come in and get the work done he wants to do?

The past few days we have saw 89 people who have changed from goats to sheep, they switched from weeds to wheat. I want to say I is good to become of use for something of eternal value, oppose to just be of use for the temporary value!

We have seen some fairly rough opposition here in the more anti christian areas, but we will explain that better when we meet again. But to God be the glory we can say he spared us! We are still in His service. Folks are still being helped in there life.

We packed 30 people onto the jeep and went to the ocean to see and enjoy it with the orphans. They had a blast! Thanks to all you who make it possible! We played cricket, badminton, etc…
All the things we did in the past 3 weeks have been miraculous! We did visit 20 childrens homes in 14 days, spoke at 14 straight, revival services at a new village each night. We had an average of 10 to 20 folks come to the saving knowledge of Jesus every night. To that I say glory to God!

We love you all,
I want to say thanks for allowing God to use you all the way in India, in whatever way you help!

INDIA | An Update from Todd Payne | 2009-3-16 (2)

If there were ever any red necks in India, I would have to say it is the people of the state where I am now. I have had lots of fun working during the past week and a half here. Last night I said bye to Grace and Jeremiah once again. They headed farther south to meet a friend o hers there for a few days.

It is hard to say good by to your family, even if it is just for a week or 2 at a time!

We have dedicated churches this week, we have visited 15 childrens homes in the past week and a half, we have 12 more to go. We have spoke and shared every evening since we come here.
We have had 82 people this past week and a half that to decide to follow Jesus as their saviour! They made him Lord and master of their life! Praise Jesus!!
Halleijuhah!!!

I had so much fun! In this place there are cows in the road and all there animal buddies. It is like a atari or x-box game. I was I could invent a video game of this place called “driving in india”. It would involve dodging dogs and dodging cows and dodging camels and dodging water buffalo and dodging pigs and dodging people and dodging etc…..

Red necks! It is like that song ” who let the dogs out” but instead its like “who let the pigs out or who let the cows out”.

People have been healed of aids, those with issues of sickness have been healed. He is a God none can be compared. He is awesome. He still moves stones, he is still our mighty fortress.
We have preached the gospel from the slums and prostitute area to the big city stages to the village with no lights. Guess what? He is at every place I have been so far! Who heals those with sickness and aids even? God! Who sets people free and delivers them from there bondage? God! Who can save the soul from an eternal hell and give them an eternal heaven? God!
What a mighty God we serve!

The highlight thus far in the south has been found in the village! I have saw the Lord save souls, I have seen peoples doctor reports from the next go from aids to no aids, but the highlight for me was found in a village yesterday!
A little old lady after receiving a outfit, that you all provided, came to me after the service. After praying for her she stuck her hand out, not in the fashion to receive something, but in the fashion to give something. It was an experience like no other. She place in my hand 10 rupees! It was the most humbling thing I have experienced up to this day in my life!. She knelt before me to honour me and put ALL she HAD in my hands, I tried to tell pastor to convince her to keep it and I didn’t want it, but she wouldn’t hear of it, she said you are not going to rob me of my blessing to give.
As I saw the “widows mite” displayed before my very eyes, I cried like crazy! How humbling to watch those who have nothing, give all they have for the furthering of Gods kingdom. And how sad it is that those who have so much, you can hardly pry it from there hand. I will tell you it is better to give than to receive, and it was surely a humbling thing to learn it in a deeper way in the presence of a widow!
I love you all and pray Gods greatest blessing to you. I thank all of you who reply to the mails, it is good to give short notes one on one with you all.
Love you and praying with you,

Todd Gracy and Jeremiah

INDIA | An Update from Todd Payne | 2009-3-16

I find myself in this position quiet frequently, yep you guess it, on the train again. Just can’t wait to get on that train again. I fill like the Willie Nelson of the railroad.

We are going south yet again. We will visit about 20 childrens homes in 2 weeks time. This is my last tour away from the place I base out of while in India this trip. Hope all you saints are doing fine in and by the grace of God.

Please pray for our revival in the villages this upcoming week, that God would shine His light in the darkness.
We did finish up giving out some the pants we got in the black market a few days back. Along with that we had a awesome graduation service, it was tough to do this year since Dr. Thomas wasn’t with us, due to his health reasons. I do ask all you to pray for him, that he would recover from his stroke in miraculous way!!

We are thankful to God that the conference went so well, I am grateful for those who prayed for it.

Jeremiah and Gracy are travelling with me for the 1st few days of this journey in the south. He has been very interesting on the train. All the people kind of gather around to watch the John deere video that he is so in love with. Did you know that John Deere can be used as a ministry tool? If people come in my space, they are either going to talk and ask questions or they will get a track.

Today a student from the north was talking with us and he asked why our country was so blessed.
That is an open door if I have ever seen one. Because of God duh? But it opened the door to share the gospel. Did he accept, not on the spot, will he? I have no clue! It is not my job to win him to the Lord, that is Gods work. Some plant some water, but know that it is God that gives the increase. I can say seed well planted!!

Hope you are planting seeds, as we await the return of the universal harvest!
Love you all
Todd and family

Comfort from the Shepherd

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. (Psalms 23:4)
As a child of God you are never alone! Your Shepherd is with you at all times. You never have to call Him in to your situation. You never have to wonder where He is. You never have to fear that if things become too difficult, He will abandon you. He goes before you; He walks beside you; He comes behind you. He protects you securely. Just as He sees every sparrow and knows every hair that is on your head, so His gaze is constantly upon you (Luke 12:6–7). Even when you cannot see Him, He always keeps His eyes upon you. He comforts you with His strong presence in times of sorrow and grief. He leads you through the valley of the shadow of death. He does not necessarily lead you around the valley as you might wish. There are times when your Shepherd knows that the only way to get you where He wants to take you is to lead you down the path that passes through the dark valley. Yet, at those times He walks closely with you, reassuring you throughout the journey that He still loves you and is with you. It is during those times that you experience His love and compassion in a deeper dimension than you ever have before.
You never need to fear evil. As intimidating as evil can be, there is nothing you will ever face that intimidates your Shepherd. He has seen it all and soundly defeated every form of wickedness. Evil never catches Him by surprise. Your Shepherd is always prepared and knows exactly when and where you will experience difficulty. Place your absolute trust in your Good Shepherd that He will protect you and demonstrate His love for you through the darkest valley.

Observing Lent | 2009-2-25

Hi Everyone,
Good Morning this happy Ash Wednesday, the beginning of our Lenten season. Below, I have attached a post from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association website on Lent. As you read it, I encourage you to take up your own Lenten journey. Choose something today that you can fast from for the next 40 days. Now, I am not asking you to give up food and water, hahahha. That would be pretty dumb. However, choose something this day and from this day until Resurrection (Easter) Sunday, join with me in a journey of self exploration and walking with Christ to the Cross.
What will you leave behind in efforts to grow this season? I am giving up complaining. So, if you hear me complain for the next 40 days, then you have the right to say, “PD, I thought you were giving up complaining for Lent…” I will take it in stride and make the change. Every time we find ourselves in contrast to our goal, we should take time to think on Jesus and the cross, talking with HIM for a moment, creating sacred space in the midst of the mundane.
This is an exciting season. So, read the article below and take the challenge with me.
Let’s journey together this season!
Blessings!
Pd
_________________________________
Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the Lenten season, a journey which leads to Easter Sunday.
by Ray Hollenbach
“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” These words from Mark 2:17 demonstrate for us again the genius of Jesus and serve as an introduction to Ash Wednesday, a somewhat mysterious date on the Christian calendar which marks the beginning of Lent. It evokes the past, encourages us to focus on the present, and points us toward an inspiring future.

In some parts of the country you could go about your business all day and never encounter a reminder that this is Ash Wednesday. Or you could look up from your work to find someone near you wearing ashes on her forehead in a mark that looks something like a cross.

Ash Wednesday is about preparation, and the beginning of preparation at that. All of the Lenten season is focused upon preparation for Easter. Ash Wednesday is about how we can begin those preparations. It is “to make a right beginning of repentance,” as the Book of Common Prayer puts it. We are reminded of “the need which all Christians continually have to renew their repentance and faith.”

Ash Wednesday is the day when the journey toward Easter begins. I would like to suggest that Ash Wednesday helps us begin our preparation for Easter in three ways: by teaching us to mourn the past, to examine the present, and to look forward toward an inspiring future.

Mourning the past
The ashes of Ash Wednesday come from the palm leaves that were burned after last year’s Palm Sunday. Throughout the Scripture ashes speak of mourning and regret. To mark his sadness, Job covered himself in ashes. Jesus reminds us that repentance (true regret) can include sackcloth and ashes. The ashes from last year’s palms remind us that although we may have received Christ enthusiastically at the beginning of our Christian walk we have perhaps lost our first love.

What better call to return to our first love than to be marked with the ashes of our past enthusiasm? These ashes also remind us that the original celebration of Palm Sunday gave way to the crucifixion less than a week later. Psalm 51 is an excellent reading for Ash Wednesday. It is a Scriptural guide to repentance.

Examining our present
When Jesus challenged His listeners to consider the truth that those who are healthy do not need a doctor, He was asking each one of them to examine themselves. Only those who agree they are sick will submit to a doctor, and only when we acknowledge our sin can we receive His forgiveness. Ash Wednesday is an opportunity to examine our need afresh and to affirm that we will always need a Savior.

Do we agree with Jesus that we are still in need, or having received Him as Lord and Savior at one point in time, have we forgotten that our need is daily? Colossians 2:6 reminds us “Just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him.” Or as one pastor said, “The way in is the way on.”

Looking to the future
As Ash Wednesday begins our voyage through Lent we are also aware that our final destination is Easter Sunday. And Easter Sunday is more than a commemoration of the past. It is also about hope for the future. We have all seen what commemoration looks like when it has lost its spirit. Some people celebrate Holy days (holidays) without ever encountering the meaning: Thanksgiving Day without the giving of thanks, Christmas day without a living Savior, and Easter Sunday without a risen Lord.

But the glorious message of Easter is that He is risen! We can prepare for Easter by reflecting on the promise of resurrection. I Corinthians 15: 20 reveals, “Christ has indeed risen from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.” This wonderful verse assures us not only of Christ’s resurrection but also our ultimate destiny: that we too will be resurrected, and our loved ones in Christ. His resurrection is the promise of ours, complete with an eternal future of joy.

There are riches waiting in Ash Wednesday, especially for many of us who are unaccustomed to a formal church calendar. No matter how we mark the day, whether with ashes on our forehead or with reflection on the meaning of Easter, Jesus invites us journey on to Easter Sunday with Him.
